Tol Fuin

Tol Fuin is the largest of the three islands drawn off the coast west of Lindon. Its name keeps the name of the land it came from: Taur-nu-Fuin, the Forest under Nightshade, which was what Dorthonion became after Morgoth took it.

Dorthonion was a pine highland on the northern border of Beleriand, held by the house of Bëor and defended against Angband. After the Dagor Bragollach it was overrun, the trees grew dark and the paths were filled with sorcery. Barahir and his outlaws held out there until they were betrayed, and Beren son of Barahir survived alone in that country before escaping south into Doriath. Later Beleg Strongbow found Gwindor of Nargothrond wandering the same woods.

The War of Wrath sank the whole of it. What is left on the Third Age map is an uninhabited island, unvisited so far as the records go, marking the highest ground of a country that no longer exists.

   Barahir's outlaws betrayed

   Gorlim's capture led Morgoth's servants to the hidden camp. Barahir was killed and his son Beren was left alone in the highland.

   The land sinks

   Beleriand was broken and drowned after the War of Wrath, and only the peaks of Dorthonion remained above the sea as Tol Fuin.
