Pelennor Fields

The Pelennor lies directly east of Minas Tirith, between the city walls and the Anduin, with Osgiliath at its far corner and the Harlond quays on the river below. It was fenced by the Rammas Echor, an outer wall of stone that curved from the mountain slopes around to the riverbank, and it fed the city with grain, orchards and pasture.

The Battle of the Pelennor Fields began with Mordor's engineers breaching the Rammas and driving Faramir's men back to the gate. Théoden's riders arrived at dawn on 15 March and charged the besiegers from the north. Théoden fell when his horse was thrown down by the Witch-king's fell beast, and Éowyn and Merry killed the Lord of the Nazgûl where he stood over him.

The fighting turned again when black ships came up the river from Pelargir. Instead of Corsairs they carried Aragorn, the Dúnedain and men of the southern fiefs. The host of Mordor was caught between them and the city, and the field was cleared by evening.

   Aragorn landed at the Harlond with men of Lebennin and Lamedon, taking the enemy in the flank and ending the battle.
