Framsburg stands at the head of the Anduin, where the two springs called Greylin and Langwell join beneath the eastern end of the Grey Mountains, far north of Mirkwood and east of the northern Misty Mountains. It is shown as a ruin on the published maps of the region rather than described in the narrative.
The name belongs to Fram son of Frumgar, an early lord of the Eothéod, the northern horsemen who settled these valleys. Fram killed the cold-drake Scatha of the Grey Mountains and claimed its hoard. Dwarves demanded a share; he sent them a necklace of Scatha's teeth with an insulting message, and they killed him.
In TA 2510, after Eorl the Young answered Gondor's call and won the Field of Celebrant, Cirion granted the Eothéod the empty land of Calenardhon. The whole people rode south with their herds, and the northern settlements were left behind.

Eorl led his people from the upper Anduin to Calenardhon after the victory at the Field of Celebrant, abandoning the northern homeland.
