Wellinghall

Wellinghall stands on the lowest spurs of Methedras, the last peak of the Misty Mountains, above the north-western part of Fangorn. Treebeard carried Merry and Pippin there on his own account, walking through the forest at speed while talking without pause.

The house is not built so much as chosen: a hollow in the mountain wall with a flat floor, a grassy slope leading up to it, and a stream that comes out of the rock above and drops down the face of the bay before running away under the trees. Treebeard lit the place at evening with lamps and set stone jars of water for his guests.

What the hobbits drank there did them lasting good. The ent-draught was much like water with a taste of something growing in it, and over the days that followed both of them noticeably grew, which Merry and Pippin never stopped mentioning afterwards. They slept on a bed of grass and fern while Treebeard stood in the rain and thought, and the next morning he went to call the Entmoot.

   Merry and Pippin spent the night of 29 February at Wellinghall, drank the ent-draughts and told Treebeard what Saruman was doing to the forest.
